Awkwafina
American actor and musician Awkwafina debuted with sly hip-hop tracks that addressed the issue of sexuality and race with comical wit before increasing her appeal to Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her initial musical exposure. She performed on the trumpet. Also, she received classical and jazz training later becoming a hip-hop teenager. At college, she was studying the field of women's studies and journalism. In addition, she spent a short time studying Mandarin while in Beijing. She didn't start focusing on music until the time she graduated. Her track My Vag, a response track to the Mickey Avalon's My Dick gained viral popularity through the Internet in 2012. The track was later included in the album debut Yellow Ranger released in 2014. It also contained songs that were viral such as body-positive Queef or her wink-inducing hometown tour NYC Bitche$. This track was directly linked into another venture Awkwafina's NYC a travel guide published in 2015. She decided to pursue acting careers after completing her first two endeavors, author and musician. She's appeared in movies such as Neighbors 2 Storks as well as Bad Rap. In 2018, she was able to land breakthrough performances in a variety of high-profile films like Dude Ocean's 8 as well as Crazy Rich Asians. In June, she released the EP in Fina We Trust.
