Rochon was born and raised in Torrance. Rochon was the daughter of Zelma Staples (a nurse practitioner) as well as Samuel Staples (a businessman and graphic artist). Cerritos high school in Cerritos was where she graduated from. In 1986 she earned her degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), where she received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. Her degree also included minors in sociology and theatre. Rochon returned to CSUDH to speak at the commencement ceremony in 2016 as keynote presenter.

Ullerup was part of the cast as Julia Brynn, a character in the remake of Battlestar Galactica that aired 2006 on Sci Fi Channel. In the initial two seasons on Sanctuary Ullerup was Ashley Magnus until the character was eliminated. The character was the topic of intense debate among fans who wanted her to be back in the future on shows. But, the show ended up being removed in the year 2012. Ullerup was later cast in the role of Bree O'Brien for Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup appeared as Maggie Thomas, the estranged spouse of Michael Thomas, in the disaster movie Asteroid: Final Impact (2015). Ullerup is a regular in the role of Dale Travers, in the Hallmark Signed, Sealed, Delivered series of films, which began in 2016.
